New locomotive joins CMR
January 2010 Gulgong a 7 ¼” NSWGR 44 class locomotive
owned by Mike Crean is now stabled at the CMR loco sheds. The unit was
originally built by Ron Davey. Due to poor health Ron sold the loco
and it has had two other owners prior to Mike’s acquisition. The
unfinished project was acquired in mid 2009. The name was chosen by
Mike’s mother as it was the birth place of his grandfather. The
indigenous meaning of the name is “deep waterhole”. The loco is
petrol electric, powered by a 6.5 hp Chonda and propelled by six
wheel motors. At trials and now in service the unit has met all
expectations and to date performed faultlessly.
